Did I tell you?

..that I love the fall. That means Halloween and Dia de los Muertos is just around the corner. This is my favorite time of year. We are starting to get cool nights and cool mornings here in Connecticut. Time to break out the sweaters!!! I wanted to share with you some of the things I have my eye on for the fall...

Fun and colorful sweaters...

Plaid. It's back! And I actually really like it. It looks like something I can wear on a cool fall day with leggings and my boots while eating my chocolate chip pancakes.

This is a plaid coat I found at Anthropologie...

I also need some fall dresses and I love this Rachel Pally Dress in Terracotta. I am thinking about painting my artroom Terracotta with white trim. It can give me a nice southwestern feel.

This dress would be perfect under a big sweater. You can easily take this from the summer into fall.

How about accessories and fun cosmetics?

Updates : Day of the Dead Sugar Skulls

Sorry that I have been missing in action lately. As most of you know I work full-time and I only really have my weekends and late night fests to work on my art pieces. So lately I have been using all my free time to get ready for the CT Folk Festival, which is occuring this weekend!!!

My little pumpkins...

Hi there! I haven't been able to post lately because I have been busy making custom skull orders for customers and getting pieces together for my upcoming Green Expo/Festival coming up in Connecticut in September. I will share some more details soon.

I just had to share with you what I found today in the garden. The picture isn't that clear because I took a quick shot with my camera phone. I went over to take a peak at the pumpkins and I found a pumpkin growing!!!

She is the size of a melon:) I hope to find more in the next coming weeks, but I have to bring my gloves the next time because the pumpkin stems are prickly! I will be posting some updates soon!!!

Making more Day of the Dead Stickers

I have been working on stickers. Packing them up and getting them ready for the shop: http://www.peachycheek.com/ , Etsy, and for the Connecticut Green/Folk Festival which is just a few weeks away.

It should be lots of fun!!!

I am Growing Pumpkins!

I have some good news. I didn't tell you guys this, but I have been growing pumpkin seeds since about late May and June. I planted the seeds in my little garden in the back and to be honest I didn't think they would grow, so I didn't follow their little progress and now I wish I did because they are stunning and full of life.

I planted about 4 little mounds and put about 4-6 seeds in each little hill mounds in the back garden. I have this nice size garden in the back and nothing was growing in there except garlic and I love pumpkins and wanted to try growing them this year. So I bought a pack of pumpkin seeds in the beginning of the summer waiting till the frost ended at night and then I went to work and made the little mounds and watered them heavily.

I turned my little back on them for a few weeks and then we noticed that they sprouted, they were so tiny, but something grew.

A few weeks later, almost out of nowhere, I saw the largest leaves I had ever seen. From my tiny little sprout grew long strong leaves. I couldn't believe my eyes.

Once again, a few weeks later to our disbelief the leaves became wild and were long and beautiful yellow flowers began to take form. They have been blooming almost daily ever since.

This past weekend I decided to go to them and see what was going on. I didn't want to bother them because I knew that nature would take of them and I let them be to see what and how they grew on their own. And they grew so much. The roots took hold and large long vines grew about 5-6 feet long at opposite directions and I see tendrils taking hold of the grass. These little tendrils hold the grass and secure the vine. I never see anything quite like it. I tried to pull one of the long vines but the little tendril held tightly to the ground like little hands. I moved him around so that way he doesn't grow up the house :)

This morning when I woke up one of the yellow flowers bloomed so large and vividly. I was so happy to see that.

So now that they are all on this stage in their lives I am going to start monitoring them from their flowers to when they transform into pumpkins.

I have learned so much from them. Every part of them is necessary to live and grow. Their huge large (and very prickly) leaves shade them and keeps the soil moist. They need alot of water (luckily for me its been a rainy few months), their trendrils securing their vines to the ground, and even bees are so important. The bees are the ones that will pollinate them male flowers and female flowers.

Though I was so happy to see the flowers bloom, I was sad to hear that each flower only blooms for a day and then by tonight they will close forever. But its necessary part of the pumpkin process :)

I will keep you updated and take a photo every week from now on so that you can see them grow with me.

1 Year Anniversary for Peachy Cheek

It has been 1 year today that I have been on this little page, sharing thoughts, ideas, and my art work and a little about me and my life. I have had the honor to meet so many wonderful kind people who are truly creative, unique and talented in so many ways.

Who would think that a little blog, could do all that!

Thanks so much for reading, supporting, and taking a bit of your day to read about me and my art work! I appreciate it and I cant way for the many more years to come.

Finished "La Cholita y su Hoja de Coca"

I finished "La Cholita y su Hoja de Coca" painting today. I added the finishing touches of the mountains and layers in her skirt. I am so happy with it. It really reminds me of my trips to Bolivia and I hope I captured their culture and vivid lives.
